Tensions high at UAE FAAL as U18s Approach the Final Week


·         City FC lead in U18 and U14 categories while du LaLiga HPC top U16 category



March 5, 2018, Dubai – UAE – The competition heated up last weekend on the pitches of the UAE FA Academy League, the only league enabling national club academies and private academies to compete across the nation, as teams fought to earn top points on the League table.

The match of the week saw City FC of Dubai facing off against Regional Academy of Abu Dhabi in the U18 category. While City FC having the advantage of hosting the match on their home pitch, they were taken off guard as Regional came on strong, from the starting whistle. Regional dominated the match and created opportunities, which were converted early on with an opening goal skillfully scored by Ahmed Khaleel at the six-minute mark.   City FC were not able to find their edge, which Regional took full advantage of, keeping the lead as they went into half-time.   Coming back into the 2nd half, City FC were determined to take the win and quickly retaliated with finesse, finding the back of the net three minutes into the game with a superb goal by Hamman Abdelrazig.  Moments later, City FC’s team captain Alex Hupe headed in a beautiful goal from a corner kick to take the lead.   However, Regional kept the pressure on, challenging City FC at every step and a few minutes before the final whistle equalized as Abdulrahman Audi found the back of the net, which ended the match at 2-2.

In the other U18 matches this week, over in Dubai, Season 1 UAE FAAL winners, the du LaLiga HPC, hosted LaLiga Academy in a high-energy match.  LaLiga Academy came on strong, playing a strategic game and creating opportunities on goal from kick off. However, it was an assist by Ahmed Salam from du LaLiga HPC that was converted into a beautiful goal by Mohammed Sameer at minute 26, putting them in the lead.  du LaLiga HPC took the match 4-1.  While in Abu Dhabi, ZSC Academy hosted EFF and breezed through, playing a fast-paced match with clean passes and creating opportunities that were converted into goal after goal, to take the match 4-0. 

In the U16 category in Dubai, City FC Red met City FC White and Ahmed El Tounsy from City Red played like a pro scoring a hat trick and leading his team to a 4-1 win.  While ZSC Academy hosted LaLiga Academy in a nail-biting match with both teams playing with composure and drive.  ZSC Academy opened the score line as Abdellah Mafoudi found the back of the net at 27 minutes and held the lead going into half time.  Mafoudi scored again moments into the second half, but LaLiga Academy retaliated setting up the game and creating an opportunity for Mohamed Ghanem to score at minute 46 and again at minute 69, but it was the boys from ZSC Academy who finally took the match 3-2.

In the U14 category, du LaLiga HPC hosted LaLiga Academy and played a quick match with a clear objective of taking three points through scoring a maximum number of goals and succeeded in winning the match 5-1.




The UAE Football Association Academy League (FAAL) is the official UAE Football Association competition open to both national club academies and private academies across the UAE.

FAAL will offer the highest level of competition across the nation as each team rivals for the top honor and recognition in youth football.
